WOMEN BUILDING BETTER COMMUNITIES

Brooklyn Child Advocacy Center — Court School

The Brooklyn Child Advocacy Center ("BCAC") is a public/private partnership designed to lessen the trauma experienced by child victims of sexual abuse by coordinating services for the children and their families in one central location. A multidisciplinary team of detectives, caseworkers, prosecutors, child advocates, and pediatricians help to expedite investigation and prosecution of abuse cases while ensuring the victims receive effective, sensitive, and immediate support in a setting that puts their needs first. The children range in age from 3 to about 14 years old.
During 1996-1997, the Junior League of Brooklyn embarked on a three-year special project with the BCAC, committing to design and paint a mural for the center's playroom; provide playroom volunteers; create and implement a courtroom orientation program for the young clients; hold special events to build community awareness and support for the Center and its mission; and, provide $20,000 to help furnish interview rooms and equip them with video and closed circuit technology.

The Junior League volunteers will plan and lead the group outings. Half the entertainment will be paid for by Women's Survival Space. Junior League volunteers pay their own way and seek to underwrite the remainder of the women's expenses.

Out of the Box, Youth Financial Literacy

The Junior League of Brooklyn is proud to announce that once again we are partnering with Out
Of The Box Youth Financial Literacy Program (OOTB) for a series of workshops to be held on
five consecutive Saturdays beginning on October 20, 2007. The Junior League of Brooklyn will
immediately begin recruiting over 100 motivated residents between the ages of 14 and 18 from
the Brooklyn community.

OOTB teaches students life skills necessary to master financial independence. The program is
segmented into six intense interactive workshops that provide the students with direct access
to local business leaders and with an opportunity to gain a real understanding in the areas of
finance, business, investing and communication. The workshops cover the areas of banking,
budgeting, investing, securing and maintaining credit and entrepreneurship. In addition, the
program places high value on character and each segment focuses on a specific character trait:
accountability, integrity, responsibility, courage, self-confidence and humility.

Our collective aim is to improve the quality of the life of at-risk teenagers by increasing
opportunities for educational, economic and social development. Last year this program was
successfully supported by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Washington Mutual,
J.P. Morgan Chase, and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.
